Folk Roots

In addition to writing poetry, I’m also a folksinger and occasional songwriter. My debut solo album, “I Wanna Know,” was released in 2012 and features my dad, Cliff Cole, and many of the talented musicians I grew up with in the folk-Celtic group DayBreak.

Though I don’t do many concerts these days, I still provide occasional backup vocals for my friends in the folk music community, and for my dad’s new musical project, Tachyonmetry. I also regularly attend WUMB’s Summer Acoustic Music Week in New Hampshire (the video below was taken at my showcase performance, where I was lucky to be backed up by my friend Jon Roper, Buffie Groves, and John Kirk!).

I grew up learning Celtic ballads, blues songs, and mining tunes from Appalachia, and it was this patchwork that ultimately brought me to poetry. This online self-portrait of me would be incomplete without mention of my roots as a musician.
